BATAVIA/Want to play Pickleball?

This past Wednesday night was the 2nd Annual Fall Pickleball Tournament at the YMCA Gym. Six teams of two competed for two hours on two courts.

Crowned Pickleball champs, Steve Ognibene and Mike Lear went 5-0 on the night. The pair have been playing on and off together for the past 3 years. The Club has been around a bit over 5 years and started with just 20 people.

Second place winners were Josephine Fallado and Mike Ianni

Third place winners were Larry Riegel and Art Smith.

The Pickleball group meets on Tuesday/Thursday mornings and Wednesday night from 6:30-9:00p.m. Also on Sundays in the winter from 9:00-11:00a.m.

Comprised mostly of retirees in the mornings, the Wednesday evening session is usually made up of working people and is more aggressive play.

Anyone can play.

They have paddles for you to use.

Not a YMCA member?

You can play for $3.00 per game/YMCA members play for free.

The Pickleball Club has about 55 members and is organized by a committee.

Susan Lewis and Karen Spiotta helped organize the 2nd Annual Fall Tournament.

“Different members come on different days or nights, we will help anybody get interested in the game, they don’t need a paddle, we have extra,” says Susan Lewis, Co-Organizer.
