The Bethany Town Board held a public hearing on Wednesday night in regards to a moratorium on large scale solar projects in the town.
The public hearing was held at the end of the regular Town Board meeting and lasted about 45 minutes.
After hearing from several concerned citizens about having large scale solar projects possibly looking to set up shop in the town, Board members are looking to vote on a resolution for a 6 month moratorium at their next meeting in December .
Some farms in the area have been contacted by solar companies, but the Town has not been approached. Town Supervisor Carl Hyde says the Town is looking to protect itself, creating its own zoning laws in regards to large scale solar projects. The moratorium will allow the Town of Bethany some time to create zoning laws for large scale solar projects.
A public hearing was also held on the 2020 Budget, which was voted on and unanimously passed.
Other topics that were discussed during the regular Town Board meeting were the transfer station and whether to keep it running, water district updates and the old Town Hall.
The next Town Board meeting is scheduled for December 9th at 7:00p.m. Anyone interested in serving on the solar zoning committee should contact Town Supervisor Carl Hyde.
