Water Authority workers in the area of 8783 Prole road spotted flames in the front window of a one story house on Thursday morning and called 9-1-1.
The fire immediately went to a second alarm with fire crews from Alexander, Bethany, LeRoy and the Town of Batavia also responding for manpower.
Once on scene, firefighters made entry through the front door and put out the fire in the living room near the wood stove. A litter of 10 puppies and two dogs were lost in the fire.
The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire and no one was injured. The Red Cross was called to assist the homeowner as the rest of the home suffered smoke and water damage.
Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
