GENESEE COUNTY/UMMC welcomes first baby of 2020 on New Year’s Day

Welcome to the world Thomas Alexander Colmenero!

Thomas was the first baby born at UMMC in the new year.

Weighing in at 7 lbs 4oz, Thomas was scheduled to arrive December 30th, but waited a few days for all the fireworks of the new year.

Thomas’ parents have known each other since 2002, they were high school sweethearts, they married in 2010 and had planned to have children every two years. That plan only worked between two of the four children.

“He’s content, maybe we will have one more in two years,” says Chelsea, who is a stay at home mom.

Thomas is part of T.E.A.M. Colmenero, Thomas(1 day old), Elizabeth(7 years old), Alakai(10 years old), and Matthew(5 years old).

After their dad Jesse combined the first letters of their first names to make the word MEAT, 5 year old Matthew re-arranged them to TEAM. Their mom Chelsea decided to have shirts made up for each of them with the first letter of each of their first names over a small dinosaur which is Matthew’s favorite.

Thomas will make his way home to Albion with his mom and dad to be with his family tomorrow.

“This hospital is awesome, the staff is awesome, that’s why we keep coming here to have more babies,” says Jesse.
