On Friday December 6, 2019, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the intersection of Route 19A and Denton Corners Road in the Town of Genesee Falls for a serious injury motor vehicle accident involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer.
During the investigation it was found that Jay R. Stedge of Anthens, Pennsylvania was traveling easterly on Denton Corners Road. Stedge was operating a 2006 International semi-truck and trailer and failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign at Route 19A, striking a passenger vehicle operated by Dylan J. Halbert, 25, of Canaseraga.
Halbert was traveling northerly on Route 19A and struck the semi-truck and trailer causing serious injuries to Halbert. Rescue personnel extricated Halbert and Mercy Flight transported him to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Halbert succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident on December 17, 2019.
Stedge is charged with failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign, unlicensed operator, operating on a suspended license, a brake violation, over length semi, 48 feet, and a log book violation, operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Stedge was arraigned in the Town of Genesee Falls Court and is to return at a later date.
Pike, Castile and Nunda Fire Departments assisted at the scene along with the Wyoming County Sherriff’s Accident Reconstruction Unit and New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.
