GENESEE COUNTY/Bethany/ Planning Board encourages public to attend meetings during the moratorium on solar projects

The Town of Bethany Town Board adopted a moratorium that prohibits large scale solar installations within the Town of Bethany after the town was approached about the creation of a solar farm in early December.

The moratorium will temporarily halt development of large scale solar installations for a period of up to 6 months while the Town Planning Board considers comprehensive zoning changes and the enactment of zoning measures that specifically address the establishment, placement, construction, enlargement and erection of large scale solar installations.

During the moratorium there will be no approval of site plans, special use permits, variances and no considering of applications in regards to large solar installations within the town.

Bethany Planning Board meeting

During the first regular Planning Board session of the year, board members discussed a schedule and how to approach creating a new set of regulations and zoning for large scale solar projects.

Bethany residents are encouraged to attend planning board meetings for the next few months to learn more about the changes in zoning and what is being proposed for solar installations in the town of Bethany.

A workshop meeting is scheduled for January 16, 2020 at 7:00p.m. and at the next regular Planning Board meeting on February 6, 2020 at 7:00p.m., there will be a Public Informational Meeting.

All meetings are at the Bethany Town Hall.

The planners hope to have a copy of the new law to send to the Town Attorney by April 16th.
