On Saturday, January 25, 2020 at or about 11:30PM,the Batavia Police Department was notified by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office of a stolen Spectrum Cable work truck (white Ford F-150) taken from the Town of Batavia.
While patrolling, one of our officers observed a white F-150 Spectrum work truck traveling on Washington Avenue. The officer followed the vehicle on to westbound W. Main Street. Our Officer continued to follow the vehicle, confirming with the Genesee County Dispatch Center, the vehicle in question was the stolen vehicle from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office investigation.
Our officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle at the intersection of Olyn Ave. at Holland Ave. The suspect fled northbound on Holland Ave., continuing northbound on to Oak St. before making an abrupt right turn on to Charles Street. The suspect then drove through all the backyards of the houses located on the north side of Charles Street, damaging fences, vehicles and the yards.
The suspect vehicle then emerged through the driveway of 70/72 Oak St. damaging vehicles and a house. The vehicle traveled westbound across Oak Street. striking and significantly damaging three vehicles in the driveway of 69 Oak Street. The operator then fled the area on foot.
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Frankie and handler Deputy Erion, and New York State Police assisted with establishing a perimeter around the suspect vehicle, and the neighboring streets.
Unfortunately, the suspect has not been located at this time.
The suspect was described by witnesses to be a white male, with longhair, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black backpack. No individuals were hurt as a result of the accidents.
All property owners were notified of the damaged property and have been assisting with the investigation. The Batavia Police Department is working collaboratively with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office to confirm the identity of the suspect.
Due to the active,on-going investigation, the name of the suspect will not be released.
