The City of Batavia Fire Department spent some of Friday afternoon training for ice rescues at DeWitt Park on Cedar street.
Advice from the department?
(Check out a demonstration on how to get out of the ice covered water if you fall in)
The ice is finished for this year, it is thin near the shore and about 2-4 inches further into the water. Perfect conditions to train a new firefighter who has never been in the water.
Captain Bob Fix lead the group through about an hour and a half of training. Craig Huntoon experienced the ice water training for the first time. Firefighter Chris Bobo played the role of victim.
