BATAVIA/Stay off the ice say firefighters training for ice rescues at DeWitt

The City of Batavia Fire Department spent some of Friday afternoon training for ice rescues at DeWitt Park on Cedar street.

The ice is finished for this year, it is thin near the shore and about 2-4 inches further into the water. Perfect conditions to train a new firefighter who has never been in the water.

Captain Bob Fix lead the group through about an hour and a half of training. Craig Huntoon experienced the ice water training for the first time. Firefighter Chris Bobo played the role of victim.
