Press release

Chairman of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors, Jerry L. Davis, reports:

As of 1:00 p.m. today, 3 positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed. The testing figures as of Monday, March 23, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. are as follows: 41 tests have been administered by the Wyoming County Health Department since March 16, 2020.

19 tested negative for COVID-19, 22 tests are still pending results.

Test kits and laboratory testing remain in short supply in the entire WNY Region. Testing is also occurring among other private healthcare practitioners in Wyoming County, only those confirmed cases are relayed to the Health Department.

The rates of testing and results are not the sole indicator of COVID-19 as it circulates in our community. Please continue social distancing measures to slow the spread of illness in Wyoming County.

During this crisis it is important to focus on staying well both physically and mentally. Try to sleep for 7-9 hours per night, eat balanced, healthy meals, exercise, and drink water. These practices will boost your endorphins, and help ward off stress.

Remember that social distancing does not have to mean isolation.

Contact friends and family members via phone or Internet.

Helping others can help decrease stress and increase positive feelings.

Reach out to the elderly, donate food or other supplies, or send a thank-you note to a nurse or first responder. Identify some small things for which you can be thankful, whether it is increased time you spend with family, or the birds chirping outside.

Finally, create opportunities to laugh by calling a funny friend, watching a comedy, or sharing a good meme. If you find that the current situation has overwhelmed your ability to cope, contact the Wyoming County Crisis Line at (585) 283-5200. For additional resources on wellness during COVID-19, contact the Wyoming County Mental Health Department at (585)786-8871.
