In the latest of a string of drug seizures, officers seized over five ounces of Synthetic Marijuana and 95 strips of Suboxone hidden inside packages mailed to inmates at the two western New York correctional facilities.
On Wednesday, May 13 and Thursday, May 14, officers processing inmate packages discovered two ounces of Synthetic Marijuana, commonly known as K2, and 95 strips of Suboxone, a prescription drug used to treat opioid addiction, at Orleans Correctional Facility.
On Saturday, May 16, at Attica Correctional Facility, an officer who was X-raying canned food mailed to an inmate, discovered 3 bundles wrapped in plastic inside the cans. Inside the plastic was a green leafy substance that tested positive for K2. The drugs weighed 3.8 ounces. It was mailed from an address in the Bronx.
“Staff are doing a fantastic job detecting drugs flowing into prisons on a daily basis right now. Even with those great efforts, drugs are still getting into the hands of inmates. Once again, it shows a glaring need for DOCCS to implement the Secure Vendor Program. Until then, this problem will continue,” stated Mark Deburgomaster, Western Region Vice President.
