BATAVIA/Six small graduation ceremonies celebrate the resilient Class of 2020 at BHS

The 138th Annual Commencement at Batavia High School was held under the big willow tree in front of the High School on State street on Saturday afternoon. The last time a BHS graduating class met under the big willow tree, it was 1999.

The 166 graduates received their diplomas in person in six separate ceremonies of 25-30 people. Each student was allowed to invite 4 guests.

The class was able to listen to Valedictorian Andrew Lin and Salutatorian Lydia M. Geiger in a pre-recorded message that was displayed on a video monitor.

Superintendent Anibal Soler Jr. and High School Principal Paul Kesler spoke briefly before handing out diplomas. Each ceremony was about 30 minutes in length.

Each student was presented with a piece of the school gym floor that was just recently replaced. Their names were engraved on the old wood floor piece along with the Class of 2020. Bob Mullen created these keepsakes for all of the students from the BHS Class of 2020.
