WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/East Bethany woman charged after report of suspicious vehicles parked roadside for several days

On August 14, 2020, at around 5:30p.m., deputies were checking the area of Ryan Road, in the Town of Warsaw, for the report of two suspicious vehicles parked on the side of the roadway for the last couple of days.

A Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office investigator, driving an unmarked vehicle, checked the area, but the vehicles appeared to be gone upon arrival.

After leaving the scene, the investigator observed a vehicle matching the description of one of the vehicles from the above complaint nearby.

A deputy in a marked Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle initiated a vehicle and traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle on Dale Road at Pflaum Road and identified Alyssa L. Nowakowski, 22, of East Bethany, as the driver of the vehicle.

Nowakowski showed a suspended license for failure to pay child support and was placed under arrest.

Nowakowski was processed roadside and issued an appearance ticket for aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Middlebury Court at a later date.

Deputies responded to the area of Route 78 in the Town of Java for a report of a sick or intoxicated driver who was all over the roadway on August 22, 2020.

A motorist reported that the vehicle was drifting between lanes and causing a traffic hazard, which was preventing the steady flow of traffic.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Ja-Ryan M. Steen, 27, of Java Center.

Steen reportedly displayed signs of impairment and field sobriety testing was conducted. Following testing, Steen was arrested for DWAI/drugs.

Steen is to appear in the Town of Java Court at a later date to answer the charge.

On August 18, 2020, at around 7:24pm, deputies were patrolling westbound on Route 39, in the Town of Eagle, when a white 2002 Honda CRV was observed traveling in the same direction.

A random data check showed the vehicle’s registration was suspended for insurance not in affect.

Following a traffic stop, Shelley R. Baldwin, 37, of Ellicottville, NY, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.

Baldwin was processed roadside and issued appearance tickets for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Baldwin is scheduled to appear in the Town of Eagle Court at a later date.
