ConnectLife Blood and Organ Donor Network, a local non-profit organization, has teamed up with Batavia Downs and 97 Rock to bring a Community Blood Bank event to Genesee County on Friday afternoon.

Starting at 2:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2020, you can stop by, either walk in or make an appointment, to give blood at the Downs. DJ Jickster from 97 Rock will be on hand from 1-3p.m.

ConnectLife helps provide 75% of the blood used here in WNY hospitals.

According to the Director of Blood Donor Recruitment for ConnectLife, Amanda Farrell, the blood supply in WNY is pretty low right now due to a lot of recent traumas and unrest in WNY.

“Everything we collect here with ConnectLife stays here in WNY,” says Farrell.

“It’s a way the people in the community can help their family, friends and our neighbors along with patients here in our community hospitals.”

Farrell also says that many surgeries were put on hold due to the COVID pandemic and they have now been rescheduled so hospitals are in need of blood for patients right now.

There will be health checks at check in and people must be healthy and COVID free to donate. Photo ID is required. If you are 16 or 17 years old, you must have parent’s permission.

Those who are over 18 will receive $5 in gaming bucks for Batavia Downs .

“Its a great way to come in save lives and get some spending money and come into Batavia Downs and have some fun. In less than an hour of time you are saving three lives. It’s a really meaningful way to give back.”
