WYOMING COUNTY/Overheated wood stove/vent pipe causes $25,000 in damages to home

An overheated wood stove/vent pipe caused $25,000 in damages to a home at 1058 Graff road in Bennington on November 26, 2020.

According to Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services, activated smoke alarms alerted the owner of the home, David Hoy, of the fire a little after midnight.

Extra interior firefighters were called to the scene due to the remote area inside the home that the fire was located in.

Fire crews from Bennington, Cowlesville, Attica, North Java, Strykersville, Sheldon, Darien, Corfu, Marilla, Wales Center and Alden all responded to the scene. Fire crews were on scene for about 3.5 hours.

Also assisting at the scene, Wyoming County Emergency Management and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.

No injuries were reported.
