BATAVIA/Muckdogs opening night sights and sounds

Video of opening night 2021

The Batavia Muckdogs played their 2021 home opener at Dwyer Stadium on Friday night, their second game in the PGCBL collegiate league against the Elmira Pioneers.

Players signed autographs and chatted with fans at the 3rd base line and the crowd experienced five opening pitches from City Council President Eugene Jankowski, City Councilpersons Bob Bialkowski , John Canale and Assemblyman Steve Hawley along with Sabres great Ric Seiling.

The highlight first pitch came from above, a helicopter flown by Peter Zeliff lowered to the field where Donnie Nichols tossed the ball to his Dad, Robbie Nichols, who made a great catch. Robbie’s wife, Nellie, then completed the final pitch to home to kick off the 2021 Muckdogs season.

Unfortunately, the Muckdogs lost to Elmira 9-7 and are now 1-1.

The Muckdogs are back in action on Saturday June 5th and will play the Jamestown Tarp Skunks.
