ORLEANS COUNTY/Man with un-holstered gun in pocket suffers gunshot wound to the leg after accidental discharge

On September 6th, 2021, at 9:21p.m., Orleans County Sheriff’s Deputies were working a motor vehicle accident on Ridge road in the Town of Murray when the Murray Fire Department Fire Police reported a vehicle had driven up with a male passenger inside with a gunshot wound.

Deputies responded and found a 50 year old Orleans County resident with a gunshot wound to the upper right thigh.

Upon investigating further, it was determined that this individual had been in a vehicle on his property repositioning and moving trailers around. The individual had a Ruger Semi-auto .22 cal. pistol, (un-holstered) in his shorts pocket and when he put his seatbelt on it reportedly discharged a round into his leg.

The victim was transported to Strong Hospital by Monroe Ambulance.
