WYOMING COUNTY/Mt. Morris man allegedly driving while smoking crack cocaine, drugs seized

Steven S. Santini, 44, of Mt. Morris, faces multiple felonies following a traffic incident on Route 20A in the Town of Perry on January 6, 2022.

Santini was observed by police as he was driving erratically and into the oncoming lane of traffic on Route 20A in the Town of Perry. Santini was stopped while opoerating a 2021 Nissan rental vehicle, on Route 20A in the Town of Warsaw, near Burns Road.

During the traffic stop, Santini was found to allegedly have a crack pipe in his pants pocket. Santini was alleged to have been smoking crack cocaine while driving on Route 20A, and he was alleged to have thrown a crack cocaine rock out the window of his vehicle while being followed by the marked patrol vehicle.

Santini was subsequently asked to perform field sobriety testing and was taken into custody for DWAI after performing poorly on the tests. Santini was also found to have a prior conviction of DWAI/drugs in 2017 in Geneseo, NY. A vehicle search resulted in the seizure of 4.56 ounces of cannabis, 550 milligrams of cocaine, 160 milligrams of fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia items.

Santini was taken to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for processing, and a Drug Recognition Expert from the Arcade Police Department responded to conduct a drug influence evaluation with Santini. Following the drug influence evaluation, Santini was found to be impaired by multiple drug categories and unable to operate a vehicle safely.

Santini is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony, tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony, DWAI/drugs, a class E felony, DWAI/combined influence of drugs, a class E felony, criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, unlawful possession of cannabis, and failure to keep right.

Santini was arraigned in Perry Town Court where his NYS driver’s license was suspended pending prosecution.

Santini was released on his own recognizance in compliance with NYS Bail Reform, and he is scheduled to appear in Perry Town Court on January 12, 2022. Santini was released to a sober third party.
