PERRY, NY- Chief Michael J. Grover reports the arrest of a Perry resident on several charges following an investigation by the Perry Police Department.
On January 29, 2022, Officer Spencer Kramell conducted a traffic stop on Cherry Street for multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. Upon interacting with the suspect, 31-year-old Matthew A. Moir, of Perry, Officer Kramell suspected Moir to be intoxicated.
Officer Kramell requested that Moir submit to standardized field sobriety tests, which he complied. Moir did not perform the tests as instructed and was subsequently arrested for DWI. After further investigation, Officer Kramell suspected that Moir was involved in a motor vehicle crash somewhere outside the Village of Perry.
Sgt. Jorgensen with the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate the suspected crash. The crash scene was located at the intersection of East Lake Road and Route 39. It was determined that Moir passed through the intersection, collided with a telephone pole, and stop sign at the intersection of Hawthorne Road and Route 39 before coming to rest in a field to the north of Hawthorne Road. Moir then left the scene in his damaged vehicle and traveled into the Village of Perry where the above traffic stop and subsequent DWI arrest occurred.
Moir was processed at the Perry Police Department, where he did voluntarily submit to a chemical breath test to determine his BAC. The test revealed Moir to have BAC of .15%. Moir was issued numerous uniformed traffic tickets for the above offenses from both the Perry Police Department and Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office. He was released to a sober third party, per NYS bail reform.
