WYOMING COUNTY/Family cat perished in Friday afternoon fire in Java

The cause of an afternoon house fire in the Town of Java on January 28, 2022 remains under investigation.

Five fire companies, Strykersville, North Java, Arcade, Sheldon and Chaffee-Sardinia, responded to 998 Chaffee road for a reported structure fire about 3:18pm.

According to the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services, a neighbor called to report the fire, and no one was home at the time of the blaze. The house sustained significant fire, smoke and water damage. A family cat perished in the fire.

One adult and one child are being assisted by family and friends.

Estimated damage is $100,000. The home is owned by Green Acres LLC.

Fire crews were on scene about 5.5 hours. Also assisting on scene, Wyoming County Emergency Services, Monroe Ambulance, Town of Java, NYSEG, and NYS Police.
