An Open House celebrating the retirement of Dr. Michael Kubiniec and his wife Sharon from their dentistry practice on Washington avenue was held on Friday afternoon. The Open House also introduced patients and the community to Dr. Adam R. Gregor.
After 35 years, Dr. Michael Kubiniec decided to retire on January 31, 2022, after a search to find a doctor carrying on his office philosophy of exceptional dentistry and service was located.
In the Open House held on Friday afternoon, Kubiniec introduced his patients and the community to Dr. Adam R. Gregor, D.D.S, who has always wanted to own his own practice. Dr. Gregor has been Associate at an office in the Buffalo area for the past 6 years. He completed his undergraduate studies at U.B. and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from the U.B. School of Dental Medicine, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Gregor completed his post graduate residency at the VA Medical Center in Buffalo and has received multiple awards.
Dr. Gregor has been taking care of patients at the office since February 1, 2022.
Dr. Kubiniec says the pair met through the sales force of a dental supply company.
“I knew I wanted to own a practice,” says Dr. Gregor.
“It’s almost like buying a house where there are certain things that you want and certain things that are deal breakers. I came here and met Dr. Mike and his wife Sharon, looked around, liked so much about the office, it was perfect timing.”
Dr. Mike says the original plans for the practice changed after his son Thomas, after getting into dental school at UB, changed his path and decided to go in a different direction. Dr. Mike and his wife Sharon had planned to keep the office going until Thomas graduated.
Being a perfectionist, Dr. Mike says he felt it was time to retire at age 61.
Dr. Mike’s father, Dr. Conrad Kubiniec, started the practice in 1961, with Dr. Mike joining him in 1987. In 1999, Dr. Mike took over the practice and for a brief time also had an Associate Dr. Jennifer Froebel. The last few years Dr. Mike has been on his own.
“It’s hard to take a vacation, if I take a week off all the hygienists have to not work that week because you have to have a dentist on hand, it was fine, we coordinated the week off in the summer.”
Dr. Gregor says this is something he doesn’t mind.
“This is part of the territory that came along with it. I want to establish myself and take care of patients and go from there.” Dr. Gregor says adding an associate is not in the works currently.
Dr. Gregor and his wife currently live in Amherst, with his wife teaching in Clarence. They hope to move someplace closer to Batavia soon.
With a steady stream of patients, community members and friends coming through the doors at 180 Washington avenue on Friday afternoon to wish Dr. Mike and his wife Sharon goodbye, many are very sorry to see Dr. Mike and his wife Sharon leave the practice.
“It’s been a great ride,” says Dr. Mike.
Dr. Mike and his wife Sharon plan to stay in Batavia for now and visit their vacation home on Canandaigua Lake more often.
