WYOMING COUNTY/Domestic incident leads to shooting in Java

On May 16, 2022, at about 10:30 p.m., the Communications Division of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call for a violent domestic incident that was occurring at a residence on Holland Road in the Town of Java. A second call about five minutes later, reported a female had been shot.

At 10:53 p.m., Deputy Sampson of the Sheriffs’ Office and Officer Turnbull of the Arcade Police Department arrested Jared T. Wrazen, 29, of Holland road, Town of Java, at the scene for the shooting.

The 29-year-old victim was shot in the abdomen and was treated on scene by EMS from Strykersville and Monroe Ambulance. She was transported from the scene by Mercy Flight to ECMC and no further information is available on her condition. Also, in the residence at the time of the shooting was a 63-year-old woman and a 4-year-old child. They were both unharmed physically.

Wrazen is charged with assault in the first degree (B Felony), criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree (C Felony) and endangering the welfare of a child (A Misdemeanor).

He was arraigned in front of Justice Fusani of the Town of Warsaw Court and held without bail. The Criminal Investigations Division is continuing the investigation and further charges are likely.

The Wyoming County District Attorney’s Office and Department of Social Services Child Protective Services Unit assisted in the incident.
