The all-wood constructed covered bridge named the “Cannon Covered Bridge” was dedicated in honor of Sgt. Charles Cannon, Army Corps of Engineers, who served with distinction during World War II, and was a member of the 35th Engineer Combat Battalion. Company C. Sergeant Cannon, a Bennington native, was killed in action in 1945.

The new covered bridge was constructed after 4 years of planning and replaced an iron truss bridge that had reached the end of its life according to Todd Gadd, former Wyoming County Highway Superintendent.

The new “Cannon Covered Bridge” has a life expectancy of 125 years.
