Six fire companies and several ambulances responded to a structure fire in the Village of Warsaw on Wednesday morning about 4:09a.m.
According to Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services, a 79-year-old male occupant in a second-floor apartment succumbed to his injuries at WCCH after being rescued from his burning apartment at 24 Murray street.
First arriving firefighters found a working structure fire in the second-floor apartment with the occupant trapped. Interior firefighters conducted a search for the victim and were able to rescue him from the burning apartment. CPR was started after fire crews rescued the victim. He was transported to WCCH and was pronounced deceased.
A first-floor tenant was not injured in the fire and is being assisted by the Red Cross. Fire crews from Warsaw, Silver Springs, Gainesville, Perry Center, Perry, Wyoming and Attica were on scene for 7 hours.
Also assisting on scene, Perry Ambulance, Monroe Ambulance. Wyoming County Emergency Services, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, Warsaw Police, Red Cross, NYSP and NYSEG.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and damages are estimated at $50,000. The home is owned by Sharon Brant.
