BATAVIA/Motorcyclist suffers life threatening injuries in collision with van

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious personal injury accident that occurred at 3872 West Main street road in the Town of Batavia about 5:20p.m.

An investigation revealed a 2019 Ford Transit, operated by Bruce P. Chilson, 80, of Spring Hill, Florida, was traveling west on West Main street road and making a left turn into Dave’s Ice Cream shop, when it was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound motorcycle that was traveling east on West Main street road.

The operator of the motorcycle, Gilberto N. Natal, 34, of Batavia, NY was ejected from the motorcycle and then went into the van. The force of the collision resulted in the van overturning onto its side. Natal sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was treated by Mercy Medics and transported by Mercy Flight to Strong Hospital.

Chilson and his wife Mary Chilson, 80, were treated at the scene by Mercy Medics and transported to UMMC with minor injuries.

Charges may be pending in the accident.

The accident is being investigated by Deputy Mason Schultz, Deputy Nicholas Chamoun, Deputy Alex Hadsall, Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello, Investigator Chad Minuto and Crash Management Deputy Richard Schildwaster. Also assisting on scene, NYS Police, Town of Batavia Fire Department, East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy Medics.
