Thoughtful Kids Consignment at 56 Harvester avenue, ground floor at the Harvester building, officially cut the ribbon on Friday afternoon at their new children’s consignment store.
Thoughtful Kids Consignment was an idea that was conceived during the pandemic when a busy mother of two young children found herself constantly going through clothes with her growing kids and no local options for consignment.
“I started thinking about selling my stuff online or if I wanted to start my own little boutique shop, it came out of an abundance of need for myself,” says owner Alisa Pastecki of Batavia.
Pastecki started in consignment by doing pop up sales at places like markets.
“Once I started consigning so much stuff and there were so many articles of clothing that there was no room for lugging this all over, this being a business incubator, made much more sense.”
Alisa buys gently used kids gear from other moms, offering at-home pickup services for busy parents that can’t make it to the shop. She regularly travels to Orchard Park, Hamburg and Rochester, everywhere in WNY really.
“They let me take their items and I see what I can sell them for, once the items sell, they get a percentage of the sales. $20 or more in sales and you will get a check at the beginning of each month. This is a really good way to save customers money because shopping consignment is anywhere from 50-70% cheaper than retail prices.”
She plans to offer private shopping opportunities, and pop-up shop events throughout WNY as well.
Alisa says she really wanted to get back out into the community after having her two children, Gloria, 4, and Walter, age 1.
“I myself suffered with post-partum depression with both of my kids, I have gone through peer counseling training through Post-Partum Support International and being able to see other moms when they have newborns or near the one-year-old stage, it gives me the opportunity to talk with them about things that most people don’t talk about. That is one of the driving forces of this business, to get out in the community and talk to as many moms and dads about what issues they are having in their lives and what is going on in the community. If you don’t have a village, you can just find it.”
Thoughtful Kids Consignment’s mission is to provide a way to save time and money on quality children’s clothing and gear while supporting the mental health of local families.
