Chief Michael J. Grover reports the arrest of a Gainesville resident on several charges following an investigation by the Perry Police Department.
On July 11, 2022, Officer Spencer Kramell received a complaint regarding a possible violation of a full stay away order of protection that was issued in Perry Village Court. It was alleged by the victim that 36-year-old Cody D. McGrath, violated the order by sending emails to the victim as well as going to the victim’s residence.
After conducting interviews with the suspect and reviewing the emails and home security camera footage, police say that McGrath violated the order on June 24, 2022.
McGrath is charged with criminal contempt 1st degree, and aggravated family offense, both class E felonies. The Wyoming County District Attorney’s Office was contacted due to the felony-level charges and Assistant District Attorney Hamilton suggested a bail recommendation of $20,000 cash, $40,000 bond, $80,000 secured.
McGrath was arraigned in Perry Town Court before the Honorable Tom McLaughlin and was represented by the Public Defender’s Office. Judge McLaughlin committed McGrath on the above bail recommendation to the Wyoming County Jail. He is due back in Perry Village Court on August 2, 2022. Also assisting with the investigation was Sgt. Blake Russell of the Perry Police Department
