WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Man arrested after investigation into fraudulently purchased iPhones/Brooklyn man involved in crash after vehicle pursuit

Jerome E. Ware, 59 of New Rochelle, NY, was arrested following a joint investigation into fraudulently purchased iPhones on a victim’s account who resides in the Town of Warsaw.

On April 7, 2022, a victim in the Town of Warsaw received a phone call from an individual indicating they worked for Verizon Wireless. The suspect solicited account information from the victim and subsequently placed an order for four [4] iPhone 13 Pro Max smartphones on the victim’s account. The iPhones, worth $5,599.96, were reportedly delivered to an address in Mount Vernon, NY the following morning, April 8, 2022.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the New York City Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and FedEx Security, and ultimately implicated a FedEx Express driver who was diverting the smart phones from his route and not delivering them to their intended addresses.

A warrant of arrest was signed on August 23, 2022 by Wyoming County Court Judge Mohun.

On September 27, 2022, Jerome E. Ware was arrested after turning himself in to Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies. Ware is charged with two class D felonies, identity theft in the first degree and grand larceny in the third degree.

Ware was arraigned in Warsaw Town Court where he was released on his own recognizance in compliance with NYS Bail Reform. He is scheduled to return to Warsaw Town Court on November 7, 2022, for further court proceedings.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office arrested Donte A. Dennis,18, of Brooklyn, NY, following a vehicle pursuit that began in Perry Center on September 24, 2022.

Deputies on patrol observed a vehicle traveling at 63 MPH in the 40 MPH speed zone and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Dennis, who was traveling west on Route 20A, failed to comply as required. A pursuit continued to the top of the East Hill on Route 20A in the Village of Warsaw where Dennis crashed.

An investigation found Dennis to allegedly be under the influence of drugs after being tested by a drug recognition expert. He is charged with DWI- drugs combination, unlawful fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, speeding over 55, speed in zone, failure to keep right, unregistered vehicle, switched registration, operating a vehicle with no insurance and passing in a no passing zone.

Dennis is to answer the charges on October 12, 2022 in the Town of Perry and October 17, 2022 at 5:00 PM in the Town of Warsaw.
