Owners of Whisper Brook Properties, LLC at 2830 Sodom road in Gainesville, were alerted to a fire after they heard an explosion coming from a barn at 8:52a.m. Saturday October 22, 2022.
According to Wyoming County Office of Emergency Management Services, the 40×60 ft. structure attached to the main barn (200×70) was totally involved in fire when firefighters arrived on scene.
Fire crews were able to limit the spread of the fire to the remainder of the main barn.
A second barn located nearby sustained some damage, but remains functional,
One cow was killed in the fire.
Estimated loss is $260,000.
The cause is under investigation.
Fire crews from North Java, Bliss, Silver Springs, Varysburg, Arcade, Gainesville, Strykersville, Attica, Sheldon and Warsaw responded to the scene and were on location for about 4 hours.
Also assisting on scene, Wyoming County Emergency Services, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Dept., Wyoming County Building & Codes, Wyoming Correctional Facility and National Grid.
