A verdict was reached in the trial of 41-year-old Melvin A Huntley, of Wilkinson road, Batavia, NY, late Tuesday afternoon.
A Genesee County Jury has found Huntley guilty of the following charges:
Sex Abuse 3rd Degree (2 counts)
Sex Abuse 1st Degree (5 counts)
Rape 1st Degree (2 counts)
Predatory Sex Against a Child (2 counts)
Predatory Sex Assault (1 count)
Endangering Welfare of Child (4 counts)
Three of the counts are class A felonies and two are class B felonies.
Huntley rejected a plea deal that was offered in October. He was first arrested in July 2021 following a Sheriff’s Department investigation that revealed he sexually assaulted a child under 11 over the course of five years.
After further investigation, three additional victims, all under the age of 17, came forward. Those cases involved repeated acts of sexual abuse.
Sentencing is set for January 11, 2022. Huntley is being held without bail pending that sentence date where he faces life in prison.
“We are very gratified by the jury’s verdict, which was made possible by an excellent investigation by the Sheriff’s Department headed up by Investigator Howard Carlson, tremendous victim support by Theresa Roth and the CAC, and most importantly, the courage of the four victims who testified at trial,” says Robert Zickl, Assistant District Attorney.
