Genesee County Deputy County Attorney, Paula A. Campbell, Esq., is to be honored for her commitment to protecting children and her contributions to the legal community for over
30 years.

Campbell is to be recognized with the state “Women in the Law” Award given annually by the 8th Judicial District’s Gender Fairness Committee. The award is presented to those who have made a significant impact in the legal system by promoting justice and equality in the courts and the law. Those receiving this recognition have been defined as lamplighters in their field of service and have served with distinction that merits “hall of fame” recognition.

Campbell was nominated by a cross-section of community members and professionals including members of the Genesee County Legislature; Family Court; colleagues, School Principals; Directors and Supervisors within the Department of Social Services; the Medical community, Substance Abuse Treatment providers; Justice for Children Program; Bar Associations; Probation Department; and County Management to name a few.

Campbell started her legal career as an Assistant County Attorney with the Genesee County Attorney’s Office in 1993 and has served under four separate administrations. For over 30 years, she has served as lead prosecutor for cases where parents have abused and neglected their children along with juvenile delinquency proceedings.

Due to her professionalism excellence, leadership and dedication in family law, Campbell was appointed by the New York State Senate to the William B. Hoyt Memorial Children and Family Trust Advisory Board. The board consists of ten members from across the State of New York. The board approves trust fund distributions to programs and services that promote the well-being and safety of children and families and was originally funded to prevent and decrease child abuse, domestic violence, and elder abuse.

While Campbell is considered an expert in her legal field; her colleagues and the community members comment that her legal knowledge is only surpassed by her compassion, concern, and grace for
others.

Campbell is a graduate of Batavia High School and SUNY Geneseo where she received her bachelor’s degree in Special and Elementary Education. Following her tenure as a teacher and then Special Education Director, Campbell furthered her career by attending and graduating from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law in Ohio before taking a position with the Genesee County Attorney’s Office.

Campbell maintained a private practice of law focusing on education and municipal law issues while being an Adjunct Faculty member at SUNY Brockport teaching education law to graduate students and administrators before taking on the deputy position at the County Attorney’s Office.

Campbell lives in Batavia with her husband, and they are the proud parents of four adult children.

The Committee will be recognizing Campbell at a luncheon on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 1 1 :45am in the Greenhouse Room of the Hotel Lafayette, 391 Washington Street, 2nd Floor, Buffalo, NY 14203.
