WYOMING COUNTY/Driver charged in Warsaw accident that sent 7 people to the hospital

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office releases the following updated information regarding yesterday’s motor vehicle collision on State Route 20A at the intersection with State Route 238 in the Town of Orangeville:

Kuanysh Baimurat, age 23, resident of Kazakhstan, faces multiple charges following a motor vehicle collision on State Route 20A in the Town of Orangeville.

Baimurat was the operator of a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, which was traveling from Niagara Falls, NY to Philadelphia, PA. Based on investigation at the scene, and based on witness statements, Baimurat was traveling eastbound on State Route 20A, passing multiple vehicles at a time, and passing in a no passing zone, just prior to the collision. Baimurat was also reported to have been traveling at reckless, extreme speeds, and he was found to be driving with a NYS Permit Only without a licensed driver in the vehicle.

A 2018 Ford Explorer, also traveling eastbound on State Route 20A, was traveling ahead of Baimurat’s vehicle, and had slowed to make a left hand turn onto State Route 238. As the 2018 Ford Explorer began to manuver its left turn, Baimurat’s vehicle was traveling at such extreme speeds it was unable to slow and avoid colliding with the 2018 Ford Explorer. Baimurat’s vehicle struck the driver side of the 2018 Ford Explorer, leaving the Explorer partially off the roadway. Baimurat’s vehicle, which had seven total occupants, multiple who were not restrained by seatbelts, left the roadway and overturned multiple times.

Occupants of Baimurat’s vehicle were either ejected from the vehicle or injured from being thrown throughout the interior of the vehicle.

Baimurat was uninjured in the collision and was taken into custody by Wyoming County
Sheriff’s Deputies after refusing medical treatment. All other involved individuals were
transported to Erie County Medical Center [ECMC], four by Ambulance and three by Mercy
Flight Helicopter. As of September 1, 2023, all injured parties have been released from ECMC
with non-life-threatening injuries.

Baimurat was charged criminally for his conduct which caused the collision, and he was charged
as follows:


Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree

Reckless Driving, Unlicensed Operator

Speed Over 55MPH

Failed To Keep Right

Driving To Left on Hillcrest

Moved From Lane Unsafely
Driving To Left of Pavement Markings

Unsafe Passing on Left.

In accordance with NYS Bail Reform, Baimurat was issued an appearance ticket and released from custody. Baimurat is scheduled for arraignment in Orangeville Town Court on September 6, 2023.

  1. Thank you Biden and Hochul. this is disgusting. Look at all the expense from all of these emergency response units and the devastation to life. I was almost hit head on from driver passing line of cars on 20A myself. This traffic does not belong here. It brings on the thruway but people are avoiding the thruway due to hochuls endless toll increases. 🤬🤬🤬
