BATAVIA/BID Board of Directors releases statement in regard to parking situation at Washington/Bank and Alva Place

Press release

On behalf of the BID Board of Directors, we are writing to express our concern for the challenges faced by the businesses located in the vicinity of the new police station construction site. As stakeholders invested in the well-being of our downtown area, we recognize the critical role that small businesses and local professional practices play in sustaining our city’s economy and community fabric.

The recent development of the police station construction has understandably disrupted the usual flow of
operations for these establishments. We understand that access to parking and the ability to reach these
businesses and offices are vital factors that directly impact their ability to thrive and serve the community
effectively.

We were in direct contact with City officials as soon as the situation was brought to our attention and
communicated with them throughout the weekend to ensure that a remedy was being worked on and the
affected businesses’ concerns were being heard.

We commend the swift action taken by local authorities in response to the concerns raised by business
owners affected by the parking lot closures. The phased solution proposed by the City demonstrates a
commitment to addressing these challenges in a timely manner. As members of the Business Improvement District (BID) Board, we hope that the City will continue to foster the long-term viability of our local businesses and professionals.
