GENESEE COUNTY/New County Jail dedicated in the Town of Batavia on Friday

Sgt. Schildwaster and Sgt. Hale raise the flag for the first time at the new Genesee County Jail located at 3839 West Main Street Road in the Town of Batavia. The new Jail will become operational in July, according to Deputy Superintendent Jeff Searls. The current Jail has 80-85 inmates, 65 male and 20 females (currently housed elsewhere). Searls says when the new Jail opens, they will use 3 of the 4 housing areas. There will be 12 more employees at the new Jail, with a total of about 60 employees. There are 184 beds in the new jail.
