Organizer Sarah Wolcott says there were about 635 people who showed up for a No Kings Rally on Main Street in Downtown Batavia on Saturday afternoon.
In April, a Hands-Off Rally attracted about 300 and covered half a block. Today, the block from Jefferson Avenue to Bank Street was covered with people with signs, chanting, shouting, singing, showing their displeasure with the federal government and the erosion of the constitution, dismantling of governmental agencies, sowing division and the military being used against US citizens and non-citizens alike.
No Kings Rallys were held all over the United States today. There is another protest in the works for November 8th at City Center from noon -2:00p.m.

You do realize that is how this country got filled with immigrants to begin with right? If you have concerns about things in your country you try to fix them not tuck your tail and run to the next country hoping it’ll be better.
I protest because the country I love too is in danger. The Constitution, which protects speech, as we both agree, also protects all people, including immigrants, from unlawful search and seizure. What we have are masked men kidnapping people,coming in with helicopters and zip-tying naked children( this happened in Chicago). Homeless people are being demonized, and Fox news called for their deaths. Women are losing their lives because doctors are afraid to treat them. I have worked in schools where parents are afraid to send their little children for fear they will be taken by ICE . Trans people have lost medical care in many states. The right to vote, especially for people of color, is being diluted, smeared, sometimes cut off. John Lewis nearly died for this right and my father fought for it too. He also fought fascism in Europe and taught me to recognize it.
For example: The Trump administration has taken over the Justice Department–which was built to ensure justice for all people–and is using it against Trump’s enemies. He and Miller and vote and Noem threaten speech, jail journalists, and literally abduct citizens and non-citizens. These are not American values. These are Third Reich behaviors.
I want to see justice restored and people cared for. I want to see our seniors safe from poverty and our kids thriving. It is because I love this country and believe in its promise that I protest the threat to all of us now, including me and you.
