BATAVIA — H.E. Turner & Co., Inc. Funeral Home has once again been recognized on the national stage, earning the 2025 Pursuit of Excellence Award from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA). This is the firm’s third consecutive year receiving the award and fourth time overall, placing it among a select group of funeral homes in the United States and around the world.
The award honors funeral homes that go above and beyond in serving families with compassion, professionalism, and community commitment. Recipients must meet high standards in ethical practices, staff development, grief support, and community outreach.
Co-owner Steven L. Johnson accepted the honor at the NFDA International Convention & Expo in Chicago this October.
“We consider it a privilege to serve the families of this community,” Johnson said. “Our team works hard every day to support families during difficult times, and this recognition reflects their dedication.”
H.E. Turner & Co. operates alongside Gilmartin Funeral Home, Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, Marley Funeral Home, Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, and Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, serving families throughout Genesee, Wyoming, Orleans, and surrounding counties.
Co-owner Justin D. Calarco-Smith noted that the award highlights the close bond the organization shares with the community.
“Everything we do begins with caring for the families who trust us,” Calarco-Smith said. “We are grateful to be able to continue this work, and we are honored to represent our region with this award.”
Fewer than 300 funeral homes worldwide received the Pursuit of Excellence Award this year.
