Last year in August, her life completely changed.

“My legs were very large, filled with fluid. I went to the hospital, and they ran blood work and told me the dreadful news that I had stage 4 kidney disease, then in a few months it went to stage 5 quickly,” says Geiger.

She says she has been in and out of the hospital over the last year with her lungs also filling up with fluid. “I can’t breathe when this happens, then they have to be drained.”

Geiger says her life is not the same anymore.

“I can barely walk without falling over. I have always been very active and was a personal care aide for many years. Helping people is what I loved to do. I have worked hard and loved people.” Geiger was also working at CooperVision in Scottsville, NY before her diagnosis.

Due to her diagnosis of stage 5 kidney disease, Geiger has been doing dialysis, three times a week, with each session lasting 4 hours.

“I have declined,” she says.

“Sometimes I can use a walker, other times a wheelchair. It depends on how I feel. I am praying and hoping to find someone who can donate a kidney. Anyone can be a donor. There is also an exchange program, and they encourage anyone to try and donate, so that’s why I’m trying so hard to get it out there, in the hopes that someone will donate, it would be a true blessing,” she says.
