Once the weather breaks, renovation of the former movie theater adjacent to the City Centre will get underway.

That’s the word from Ken Mistler, owner of the facility at 6 Alva Place, who has building permits in hand after submitting applications to the City of Batavia Planning & Development Committee.

The latest approval came this week and covers exterior changes to the structure located within the Central Commercial District. Since it is a Type II action defined by Environmental Conservation Law, Mistler’s request was not subject to a State Environmental Quality Review.

“As far as the exterior is concerned, we’ll be putting in a new glass and metal panel storefront where the overhang is, installing a handicapped accessible ramp on the outside and placing a new door on the north side – the former exit door which will become the main entrance,” Mistler said on Thursday afternoon.

In late July, Mistler secured a building permit for interior work – including a new bathroom and kitchen, electrical upgrades and raising approximately 1,045 square feet of flooring.

Mistler’s plan for The Bowery is to provide a full beverage entertainment center featuring a stage with stadium seating for viewing live performances from music to stand-up comedy.

On another front, Mistler said apartments at the Carrs Reborn building on Main Street are available at a lower monthly rent than originally announced.

“We (he and partner Pete Zeliff) recalculated the square footage and are able to lower the rent,” he said, adding that rent for the two-bedroom apartments has been reduced to $2,100 per month and rent for the one-bedroom units has been reduced to $1,900 per month.

  1. Not another drinking establishment. And right across from the police station? But I guess if that’s what it is, get some live bands in there. The bar scene was so much better in the late 80’s and 90’s when every weekend there was a live band playing somewhere.

  2. Would be great to have a line dancing place to go to again in batavia. No one has a dance floor around here

  3. I wish there was a movie theater still here!! I hate driving all the way out to the city!

  4. WOW that’s great!! Another WIN for Batavia thanks to Mr. Ken Mistler. It appears that this man is doing alot of work in the city building different properties , Bringing in more revenue for the city and county. I just hope that the powers to be treat him right with all his projects so he can continue.

  5. There should still be a movie theater here so people do not need to go out to far. It can also be family night or date night movie theater.

  6. $1900-$2100 for an apartment?? Well, that leaves me and many people I know out. It’s just a theory but I really think Batavia is trying to drive lower income folks out of Batavia. I really hope those rent prices include all utilities.

    • Right! It’s more than a mortgage! These are Buffalo or Rochester prices, not Batavia! Just another case of the rich getting richer. Mistler and Zeliff can ABSOLUTELY afford to have apartments at reasonable prices. Absolute greed by them!
