WNY community comes together to rescue a cat stuck in a tree for five days in Batavia

Thanks to many concerned community members from WNY, a stray cat stuck in a tree on Linwood Avenue in Batavia was helped down from an over 80-foot walnut tree after a dramatic rescue on Friday afternoon.

The cat was first noticed by Cory Brooks’ son who lives on the street. After being posted on a Batavia area community Facebook page on Monday, and not much response, Cory decided to share a post for help on the Attica Zone Facebook page, which then caught the eye of Shawn McMahon, who runs the Erie County Blotter Facebook page. McMahon made a trip out to Batavia mid-week and asked for help from anyone in WNY who could assist. The City of Batavia Police Department provided a net, and by Friday morning, Len’s Stump and Tree Service out of Cheektowaga showed up to rescue the cat. McMahon and Brooks also played a big role in the rescue.

Len’s Tree Service owner Kelly Vanosch and Erie County Blotter founder Shawn McMahon talk about the dramatic rescue with a good ending.

A thank you to tree climber Ben Trembley and owner Len Vanosch for positioning the bucket truck.
