GENESEE COUNTY/YMCA announces demolition of 209 East Main Street

Press release

Batavia, NY — April 20th — The Genesee County YMCA announced today that planned demolition of the property located at 209 East Main Street in Batavia, is set to begin on Monday, April 27th. This marks an important step forward in the organization’s ongoing commitment to strengthening community resources and expanding opportunities for healthy living through its new Healthy Living Campus.

While the building holds many memories for members of the community, the YMCA looks forward to enhancing access and services at its new facility, designed to better meet the evolving needs of individuals and families across Genesee County.

“This property has been a meaningful part of our YMCA’s history, and we recognize the memories it holds for so many,” said Erik Fix CEO of the GLOW YMCA. “At the same time, we are excited to take this next step forward as we continue investing in a stronger, healthier future for our community through our new Healthy Living Campus.”

The YMCA has long been a cornerstone of the Batavia community, offering programs focused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. While the removal of the existing structure marks the end of an era, it also creates space for future opportunities that align with the YMCA’s mission.

During the demolition process, the YMCA and Rochester Regional Health are asking users of the Healthy Living Campus to utilize the entrances on Washington Avenue and Waird Street. Please avoid using the Bank Street entrance at this time. In addition, community members visiting the new location are encouraged to use caution, as construction traffic will be present in the area.
