This week, during National Correctional Officers’ Week, Sheriff Joseph M. Graff and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office proudly recognize the professionalism, dedication, and service of correctional staff who work each day to maintain the safety and security of the Genesee County Jail.
Their work often takes place behind the scenes, yet it remains essential to the operation of our criminal justice system and the protection of the public. “National Correctional Officers’ Week acknowledges the challenging job Correction Officers perform within our jail where they must securely, safely, and humanely keep those committed, respecting the rights and dignity of all the incarcerated individuals,” said Sheriff Graff.
The Office also recognizes the recent achievement of Correction Officer Nalani A. Mercado and Correction Officer Roan A. Finn, who graduated from Basic Correction Officer Academy. Their accomplishment reflects months of rigorous training, preparation, and commitment to public service. The academy program provides recruits with training in effective communications, essential services, use of force, NYS Penal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, inmate transportation, firearms, pepper spray, taser and defensive tactics, along with other topics pertaining to corrections.
