Press release:
The Genesee County Spartans open the home portion of their 2026 semipro football season this Saturday.
The Northeastern Football Alliance contest is set for 5 p.m. at Pembroke Town Park, not at Van Detta Stadium in Batavia as previously announced.
Last weekend’s game against the Upstate Predators was determined by league officials to not count in the standings due to the lack of certified referees, and it will be rescheduled.
Head Coach Jermaine Henderson’s team is one of eight in the NFA, which downsized from two divisions into one division this season.
Last year, the Spartans finished with a 3-6 record, losing in the NFA playoff semifinals to the Buffalo Stampede, 20-6. This season marks the fourth for the team in the league.
Henderson, an All-Greater Rochester running back during his playing days at Batavia High School, also will act as special teams’ coordinator as he takes over the reins from Harry Rascoe, who is staying on as player-owner/offensive coordinator.
Sponsors this season include GEICO, platinum level; TF Brown’s, gold level; Endzone Cards ‘N Gaming, silver level, and The Local Barbershop, bronze level.
Other members of the team’s staff are as follows:
— Craig Tiberio, defensive coach;
— Nicholas Santos, offensive coordinator;
— Mikquon Williams, offensive line coach;
— Tammy Hathaway, team president;
— Mariana Higgins, executive assistant;
— Kayla King, sideline assistant/photos;
— Amanda Eschenlauer, sideline assistant/photos;
— Nicholas Mitchell, head of security;
