Local artist Nicole Murtha has just completed a complete refresh on the Batavia Peace Garden Mural located on the south wall of the Engine House building on Main Street adjacent to the Peace Garden. The Mural was first created in 2010 to coincide with the opening of the Batavia Peace Garden.
The Mural depicts the US tall ship bombarded in Baltimore Harbor dating back to the War of 1812. The Batavia Peace Garden was first established to commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the role that Batavia played during this war.
Coordinating a refresh on a mural this size is not an easy task. Special lift equipment was needed to complete the task. Cedar Street Rentals provided a 42 ft man lift. We sincerely appreciate their generosity and all the local businesses who continually support this garden with supplies and services. For a garden project this size it really does take a village to maintain its beauty. Thank you Batavia and thank you to all the dedicated volunteers who provide their time and expertise to keep this garden growing and expanding.
Volunteers are always welcome and needed. Interested parties please contact Barb Toal @ 585-770-3046. Join our team and become a member. For more information visit bataviapeacegarden.com.
This is Nichole Murtha
I did not repaint this myself, one of my employees at the time DeNece Kay Love did the work. She was working for My business Nichole’s Painting at the time. She’s an incredible artist, and a true natural at what she does.
