“The original celebration was to commemorate the village of Perry’s 200th anniversary of its founding, and so we had a group of women who were all in the same play group. We said we should do something to celebrate this. So, we had a happy birthday, Perry. We had little chalking’s, one major chalking, and lots of kids chalking. From that, it was so well received by the community, we continued to grow it. The moms would meet while the kids were playing at playgroup You know how moms do that, and it grew from there. And now we have 35 chalking artists on the main plaza. We have 34 youth chalking, about 70 vendors. So, it’s a great day,” says Meghan Hauser, Event Coordinator.
Hauser says there is much more that Perry has to offer this summer.
“I think that encouraging people to come to curiously hip Perry is important. Not only this event in Perry, Shake on the Lake. We just finished our puppet festival. There’s a Silver Lake experience coming up. There are things happening in Perry all summer long. So, keep coming to Perry.”
