A colorful and nutritious snack became a flavorful treat as members of Arc GLOW Community Services enjoyed bell pepper nachos packed with crunch, sweetness, and savory goodness.
The nutrition workshop was the culmination of a four-week program focused on learning about nutrition, food safety, and healthy lifestyle choices through the Genesee County Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Nutrition Workshop. This, and other events, are possible thanks in large part to a $5,000 grant from M&T Bank. The grant was awarded to enhance Arc GLOW’s recreation and respite programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming counties. Through this generous funding, Arc GLOW is expanding access to inclusive community experiences that promote social connection, growth, and healthy lifestyles; this includes, bowling nights, movie outings, dining experiences, museum and theater visits, local fairs and festivals, car shows, and the arts.
“Our goal is to create opportunities for joy, connection, and community involvement,” said Jill Pegelow, vice president of Self-Direction and Community Services at Arc GLOW. “M&T Bank’s support plays a huge part in helping us bring these experiences to life.”
Members of the Community Services program, which recreation and respite fall under, have participated in several events in 2026 including: bowling; Arc Night at the Ball Park; Night to Shine, movies; dances, visiting restaurants; fair activities; visiting Holley Falls; attending the Food Truck Rodeo; listening at the Jackson Square Concert Series, nature walks at Swallow Hallow and Dewitt Park; outdoor sports; and many other community activities.
“Arc GLOW’s recreation and respite programs provide meaningful experiences to individuals and their families. We are so appreciative of the support of the M&T Bank, which helps make a real difference,” Pegelow said.
Arc GLOW’s recreation and respite program provides temporary relief to families from the demands of caregiving, which can help reduce overall family stress. This allows families to better meet the needs of their loved ones with a developmental disability. Respite can be provided in the home or out of the home, during the day, evenings or night.
