VA WNY Healthcare held a September 11th Remembrance Ceremony at the Batavia VA on Richmond Avenue on Friday afternoon. The Ceremony took place in front of Building 1 before the 911 flag display that was placed by American Legion members, Daughters of the American Revolution, VFW members and Walmart employees along with original organizers VA Specialist Cindy Baker and her husband Chuck who designed the lay out for the flags using a knot and string system.
CDCE Officer Nicholas LaMarca says this is the sixth year for the flag display. The display represents each World Trade Center Tower.
“I’m getting old. I joined (the Army) the Friday after 911, it’s a lifetime ago now,” says LaMarca. He says he served four years and was in college at SUNY Brockport at the time of the World Trade Center attacks. The attacks were a motivating factor for him to serve.

Executive Director of VA WNY Healthcare System, Danielle L. Bergman talks about where she was on September 11, 2001, during the attacks.
