Career assistance will continue virtually and by phone; reopening scheduled for November 30
Press release
BATAVIA, NY — The Genesee County Career Center will temporarily close to the public for in-person
appointments and walk-in services from Tuesday, November 3, through Friday, November 27, 2026.
Career assistance will continue virtually and by phone during this period. The Center is scheduled to
reopen Monday, November 30.
The temporary shift to virtual and phone services is associated with the New York State Department of
Labor’s replacement of its 50-year-old unemployment insurance system with an upgraded platform
designed to improve access and simplify services for individuals and employers.
Career assistance remains available
The Genesee County Job Development Bureau will continue providing employment assistance, career
planning, resume preparation, interview coaching, and job search support. Services also include training
scholarships and supportive services for eligible adults, dislocated workers, and young adults through
the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, youth career development and work experience
opportunities, the Social Security Ticket to Work Program, and ACCES-VR contracted services.
To schedule a virtual appointment, discuss services, or request an application, call (585) 344-2042 or
email JDB@geneseeny.gov.
Applications, time sheets, and other Job Development documents may be left in the drop box on the
Career Center’s front porch at 587 E Main St Ste 100, Batavia, NY, for processing.
New York State Department of Labor will also provide virtual employment services, including job search
assistance, career guidance, labor market information, veterans’ employment services and employer
recruitment assistance. Virtual appointments are available at dol.ny.gov/workforce-scheduler.
Unemployment insurance services will be temporarily unavailable
The state’s unemployment insurance system upgrade begins Monday, November 2, at 5 p.m. and is
expected to take 9–12 days. During the upgrade, online and phone unemployment insurance services
will be unavailable, claims will not be processed, and benefit payments will be delayed.
Career Center employment services staff are not unemployment insurance staff and cannot provide
unemployment insurance services during the transition. Customers should visit
