GENESEE AND WYOMING COUNTIES/Flooding caused by heavy rains create headaches for many communities

The heavy rains from the last few days have caused many headaches for many WNY communities.

On Sunday night, water started to fill up the road on Rt.19 from Warsaw to Wyoming. This morning Wyoming Central School closed their doors to students as NYDOT work crews cleaned up the roadway which was covered in mud and debris from the overflowing floodwaters of the Oatka Creek.

This morning, Pavilion started to experience some flooding and as of this afternoon at 2:00p.m. waters were at 6.5 feet, flood stage is 6 feet. Several homes on Pavilion Center road were surrounded by water.

In Stafford, Black Creek spilled over it’s banks into back yards and at Stafford Country Club.

By late afternoon the Tonawanda Creek filled up the softball fields at Kibbe Park, Jackson avenue, Ganson avenue and Law street. As of 2:00p.m. the creek was at 10.6 feet, flood stage is 9 feet.
