18 students in grades 9-12 who are participating in the first ever Teen Academy put on by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department participated in demonstrations involving crash management and the Emergency Response Team at the Fire Training Center Thursday afternoon on State street road.

The group has been working hard all week at Byron Bergen High school and are looking into a career in law enforcement.

The students start each day with physical training by running 1.25 miles, calisthenics, jumping Jack’s, crunches, flutter kicks, over the head clap, mountain climber, push ups, jump squats and lunges.

Each student filed an application at the beginning of the year and each person was interviewed. Each student also has completed an 8 hour ride along with a deputy.

Later today, they will graduate from the program in a ceremony at Byron Bergen High School.
