PERRY POLICE REPORT/Officer goes off the road to avoid head-on collision, Castile man charged with DWI

On Saturday October 27, 2018, Officers David Spink and Gregory Smith were on routine patrol when Officer Spink’s patrol vehicle was almost struck head on, causing Officer Spink’s patrol vehicle to leave the roadway. Officer Spink safely got back onto the road and performed a routine traffic stop on Camp road.

Upon stopping the vehicle, it was the found that the driver of the vehicle, 28-year-old Mathew W. Beaumont from Castile, was allegedly operating the motor vehicle intoxicated. Officer Spink had Beaumont perform field sobriety tests and after performing poorly and refusing a breath test, Beaumont was placed under arrest.

It was later found that Beaumont was operating the motor vehicle almost twice the legal limit with a BAC of .15%. Along with being charged with DWI, Beaumont was charged with reckless driving and ticketed for refusal to take a breath test roadside and failure to keep right.

Beaumont was released on an appearance ticket with a return court date of  December 4, 2018 at 1:00p.m. to answer the charges.

 

On Friday October 26, 2018, about 11p.m., Officers of the Perry Police Department conducted a routine traffic stop for an equipment violation.

Upon stopping the vehicle, it was found that the driver, 19-year-old Charles Martin III, was operating the motor vehicle under impairment.

Officers had Martin III perform field sobriety tests and after performing poorly, Martin III was examined by a Drug Recognition Expert, which determined that Martin III was allegedly impaired and not able to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Martin III was charged with DWAI/drugs, unlawful possession of marijuana, an equipment violation and drinking alcohol in the motor vehicle.

He was released on appearance tickets with a return court date of December 4, 2018 at 1:00p.m. in Perry Village Court to answer the charges
